APEGM's Membership year runs from (January 1 - December 31). Renewal notices are sent out in early November. There is a grace period, after which a Late Fee is applied. If your renewal payment, or resignation, has not been received by the end of the renewal period, your name will be stricken from the association Register.
Membership dues are set annually by the APEGM Council and include GST. Current dues and fees are:
| Admission Fee: (New applications only) | $125.00 |
| P.Eng./P.Geo. Practising: | $300.00 |
| P.Eng./P.Geo. Deferred Dues: | $150.00 |
| P.Eng./P.Geo. Retired: | $110.00 |
| MIT Dues: | $140.00 |
| MIT Deferred Dues: | $70.00 |
| Late Payment Fee: (after February 28th) | $52.50 |
APEGM dues are pro-rated monthly. If you begin or withdraw your membership in the middle of a year, APEGM will refund your unused months dues.
If you claim a password for your online profile, you can renew online.
Here are copies of the 2010 generalized renewal invoice and change request forms.
Beginning in 2004, members in the practising category are asked to fill out an annual Declaration of Compliance each time they renew their membership.
The Accounting and Membership Coordinator is responsible for receiving dues and issuing refunds. If you do not plan to renew your membership, please contact the Accounting and Membership Coordinator and submit your resignation in writing in order to resign in good standing. Otherwise you may be stricken from the Register.
You must indicate that you will not be renewing your membership by December 31, or you will have to pay for the new membership year (pro-rated monthly). If you are resigning from Practising status, you must return your seal and certificate to APEGM (as per Act: 26(2) and 28(5)).
The Student Membership year runs from (September 1 - August 31). Dues should be paid by October 31. APEGM Student Membership is FREE for the first year, and costs $20 for each subsequent year. Monies paid as Student Membership dues are donated back to the relevant Engineering or Geoscience student societies at the University the students came from.
To accommodate Members who must take a break from their practice because of injury, maternity leave, becoming a full-time student, or other extenuating circumstances, APEGM offers a 'deferred dues' category of registration that costs half of the normal fees. While on Deferred Dues, a member should not practice. If someone is on deferred dues for more than four years, they will need to re-apply should they wish to return to their practice.
Practising Members who will not be practising engineering or geoscience any more can transfer to the 'Retired' status, which allows them to keep their vote, certificate, and P.Eng. or P.Geo. suffix. They may not practice, and must return their seal. Requests to enter retired status are pro-rated monthly. Renewals are subject to the same terms as for Practising membership.
Retired members who wish to return to full practising membership after the fourth consecutive membership year in the retired category shall be required to complete an application form, pay the current annual dues, pro-rated, pay the current Admission Fee, pass the PPT, and demonstrate, by providing a minimum of three references from registered Professional Practitioners, including one reference for each position held, that they have obtained a minimum of four years' acceptable engineering work experience during the past eight years. At least one year of this experience must have been obtained in Canada or the United States. Applications to return to practising membership following four years of Retired membership must be approved by the Registration Committee.
Members who are over 70 years of age and have been a Professional Member for over 30 years are eligible for Life Membership. They do not have to pay dues, but they are not allowed to practice either. They keep their vote and other rights.
There is another category of 'Honorary Life Membership' that is awarded by APEGM to currently practising members. They do not have to pay dues, but are allowed to continue practising as engineers or geoscientists.
