Fundamentals of Engineering Exam

Applicants who have been assigned five (or fewer) examinations in addition to Engineering Economics are eligible to write the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, instead of their confirmatory examinations.

You must seek approval prior to registering for this exam. You are allowed up to three chances to pass the exam. If you are unable to pass after three chances, your file will be re-reviewed by the Academic Review Committee. You will also be asked to take a break from writing again for at least one year.

Prior to deciding to write the FE you MUST do the following:

  1. Review
    (Note that the 'Professional Exam' is not an option).
  2. Review the NCEES Examinee Guide (available through the link above)
  3. Carefully Review and the information regarding the disciplines available: FE Chemical, FE Civil, FE Electrical and Computer, FE Environmental, FE Industrial, FE Mechanical and FE Other Disciplines. When you register, you will be required to choose the most appropriate discipline. Study guides are available at NCEES for purchase.

If you choose to register for the FE, please do the following:

  1. Complete the Application to Write the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Examination through Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba. Send this by *.pdf to Sharon at and cc: . Applications that are not complete will not be processed. Please use email subject header: FE Application.
  2. Wait for email notification from Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba. If you are approved, the notification will give instructions on how to sign up for the (APEGM) NCEES FE examination. If you are NOT approved, we will let you know the reasons why. We will also update your online profile as new information is sent or received, so log in for the most up-to-date status.

This exam has frequent offerings. Once you have been approved to write this exam by Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba, you register for the exam at your own convenience through the NCEES website. Most people will have some time to review the information carefully and decide how they want to proceed. Make sure that you allow yourself enough time to study.

IMPORTANT Please note that the FE is an option for fulfilling the academic qualification, and if you choose another option you will be expected to complete that option first (or withdraw from that option if appropriate) before attempting the FE. For example, you should not do courses or exams or be enrolled in IEEQ at the same time as the scheduling of the FE.
