The Women's Action Committee (WAC) consists of a dedicated group of volunteers with a variety of backgrounds - some are members-in-training, while others are practicing professionals.
The purpose of the WAC is to organize events that provide opportunities for networking, professional development and the exchange of knowledge. We also participate in and coordinate outreach events to inform non-members about engineering and geosciences.
The committee meets approximately 8 times per year. We host 3 to 4 WAC Events each year. All members, guests and friends are invited to our events. We also maintain liaisons with like-minded groups.
Engineers Canada has looked in detail at the issue surrounding the gradual decline in the proportion of female representation in the engineering profession. In September 2009, members of the Women in Engineering Task Force and Women in Engineering Advisory Group had the opportunity to hold a Workshop Session. This Workshop resulted in mutually agreed-upon initiatives for further advancement and recommendations, including raising the profile and improving the image of the profession and demonstrating the value of diversity in engineering education in the workplace. Please see "The Future is Now. Engineers Take the Lead!" report for more information.
