Who We Are

Formally recognized as a chapter (society) since February, 1998 and named after the famous explorer, Henry Kelsey, of 300 years ago.

Current membership of 10 from APEGS and 73 from APEGM and approximately 30 interested persons.

membership consists of approximately 60% engineers and approximately 40% geoscientists.

Who We Serve

Unique - we have members from both APEGS and APEGM with only one constitution.

We represent local industries and businesses including mining, and pulp and paper.

Our purpose is to encourage ideas and shared information of interest to members (and public) and to promote APEGS and APEGM.

What We Do

Typically, 20 individuals meet monthly, rotating among Flin Flon, The Pas, and Cranberry Portage.

Many interesting presentations to date including the "Wave Mill," underground hydroponics, paper making, and the triple 7 ore deposit under Flin Flon.

Engineering week in past years has been successful. We are now planning for 2008.

We Need You!

We are always looking for interesting and informative presentations.

We welcome all ideas and suggestions.

We hope that some of you will come and join us. Please check with one of our Contacts for further information.

How The Kelsey Chapter Name was Established

In the early 17th century search for the Northwest passage, many explorers made voyages along the western shore of Hudson Bay, but none ventured inland.  In 1670 the Hudson Bay Company established a post on the Nelson River. Henry Kelsey, an agent of the company explored the interior from the northern tundra to the Saskatchewan River. We in The Kelsey Chapter identify with Henry Kelsey's resourcefulness and determination to explore and open up northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Future Activities

Our Annual General Meeting in November and National Engineering Week in March.
Meetings lined up about 6 months in advance.
Initiative to partner with the local schools to create an interest in our young people in engineering and geoscience.
