Courses In Lieu Of Exams
Assessment applicants at Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba who are assigned technical exams but would prefer to take courses at the University of Manitoba may choose one of the options below. Each option enables applicants to take courses instead of technical exams (assigned by Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba), only with prior approval from Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba and under the conditions/approvals described below.
Course approval from the EngGeoMB Academic Review Committee is needed. Assessment applicants should request and complete the course-in-lieu form, and submit to: AcademicReview@EngGeoMB.ca
For Engineering Applicants
- Apply to the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Engineering (PBDE) Program at the Price Faculty of Engineering and take courses deemed equivalent to assigned exams as part of the PBDE program.
- This program offers graduates of undergraduate engineering degree programs an opportunity to develop additional knowledge in a technical engineering discipline and to gain support for labour-market entry or re-entry.
- Students are required to complete specific courses on Project Management and Operational Excellence and are required to take four technical courses from their engineering discipline, as well as complete one co-op work term.
- Permission from the Department Head to take a course outside of the PBDE program is required, subject to class space, which can be requested through the appropriate Student Advisor.
- Application information is available at: Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Engineering - University of Manitoba
- When accepted into the Post-Baccalaureate program, applicants should submit a copy of the acceptance letter to: AcademicReview@EngGeoMB.ca
- Apply to Extended Education (General Studies) to take courses only.
- General Studies provides opportunities for students to take credit courses at the University of Manitoba without being enrolled in a degree program.
- The applicant should select the General (Special Student) Category. This category is for students who have completed one year (24 credit hours) or more of college or university studies, who are looking to take degree-level courses to satisfy the academic assessment results but are not currently seeking a University of Manitoba degree.
- Permission from the Department Head to take a course in any Engineering Department is required, subject to class space, which can be requested through the appropriate Department Student Advisor. If consent is provided, the Student Advisor will register the student in the course.
