Because of confusion between the Professional Practice Test (PPT), which has local scope and is written by all new applicants of APEGM, and the Professional Practice Exam (PPE), which is national and must be written prior to registration, along with our decision to move from a paper-based PPT to an electronic 'Online' version, we are taking the opportunity to rename the PPT to the ABC Test. This stands for 'Act, By-laws, and Code of Ethics' (ABC) Test, and more closely reflects the test content.
All the rules regarding the PPT still apply to the ABC; it can be considered a name change. However, where there were only a couple of different versions of the paper PPT, the online ABC Test is generated from a large bank of possible questions, and is unique for each person. The questions will also be maintained with any changes to the Act, By-laws, or Code of Ethics of the APEGM.
The Act, By-laws, and Code of Ethics (ABC) Test is a True and False style quiz on engineering and geoscience in Manitoba. It covers the Act, Bylaws, and Code of Ethics of the APEGM. It is written by all new applicants to APEGM. In certain cases, people who are reinstating or reverting their status back to practising may be required to (re)write the ABC test (formerly known as the PPT).
The ABC Test is written through your secure Online APEGM Profile. New applicants will be invited to claim their profile after their details are entered into the APEGM database. They will then need to complete the ABC Test before their application will be forwarded to the Registration Committee (RC) for approval.
You may request access to the ABC Test prior to submitting your application by e-mailing the Registration Coordinator with your Full Name, e-mail address, and mailing address as you will enter them on your application. You will then receive an APEGM ID number that you can use to claim an online profile. If you already have an APEGM number, then you will need to supply that so we can enable the test in your profile.
The ABC Test is an open book test that should be written on your own and not shared with others. You can take as long as you need to complete the test. You are able to save your responses and return at any time. Once you submit the test you will get your grade right away, and APEGM will know as well.
Active Student members of APEGM have an option to enable the ABC Test themselves through their online profiles.
Student Members who have written the PPT or ABC through APEGM and scored 90% or more, can keep their score if they remain student members until they apply for the Pre-registration program. However, if they break their membership, their score will lapse and they will have to write it again when they re-apply.
Read the APEGM Act, Bylaws, and Code of Ethics, pass the test!
