Continuing Professional Development

Overview

By-law changes were voted on by the membership and passed at the end of 2011 to bring the APEGM CPD Program into effect beginning January 1, 2012.

Registered practicing members will need to summarize their professional development activities and submit them to the Association. The primary method of submission is through the Online Profile. Once the initial three year period is concluded, these activities will be evaluated at the end of each year by looking at the previous three years of entries and comparing them to the following criteria:

  • Time claimed in at least three of the six categories.
  • Maximum allowable time for each category.
  • Minimum of 240 hours counted.

The Continuing Competency Committee (CCC) will be tasked with this evaluation.

Consequences

In instances where practicing members refuse to comply with this program, the CCC may forward the matter to the Investigation Committee as a complaint.

Special Circumstances

There is an application for abatement of the program requirements for members in special circumstances, which may result in a reduced number of professional development hours required.

There is also a declaration that out-of-province members can make stating that they comply with another approved CPD program, in which case they will be exempted from the APEGM CPD program.

These forms are available in your online profile.

Retired Members

Retired members are not subject to this CPD program, however they will undergo an evaluation by the CCC if they wish to return to practicing status.
